Victorian Detective Services was requested to conduct a period of surveillance on behalf of an Australian Insurance company. The subject of the investigation had retired from flying freight planes due to health complaints which he alleged resulted from his 15 years of service with the same employer.
The instructed surveillance review was for the purpose of just that, reviewing his day to day activities prior to the insurer making a settlement. On our first day of surveillance we followed the subject from his home directly to the airport where he was seen to enter the international departures area after checking in on his flight.
As we were aware of the port he was arriving in, an insurance investigator was hired to conduct inquiries only as to the reasons of his visit to the country in question. Some several weeks later the investigator advised our office that the male subject was actually flying a commercial freight plane in that country, working 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off at a time and had been for some 15 months prior.
Subsequently a month later surveillance was conducted in the African country and video film exposed the male subject attending airports and flying. The case against the insurer was withdrawn and civil action for recovery commenced against the claimant commenced immediately.
Insurance Investigators - Case Study 2
A 56 year old male had been employed with the same employer for 26 years.
The business was sold and the male employee was not happy with his new employer. Soon after he lodged a workers compensation claim, alleging he could not attend work due to hurting his back on site.
Investigators were hired and surveillance a short time later established that the claimant was assisting his son with laboring duties at a building site.
Insurance Investigators - Case Study 3
An 18 year old claimant said his car was stolen overnight. The car was later recovered, damaged. The claimant said his three friends could confirm his movements that night: in the event, only two of the three would back him up. It was found that all four had been in the car when there was an accident and that the boy had been drinking. A further meeting with the claimant and his parents resulted in the claim being withdrawn.
